ShowerMobile HistoryThe shower business started for us in 2002 when RAGBRAI came through Anamosa, IA. The local RAGBRAI committee approached us to provide as many showers as we could at the car wash that we own. After much research and visiting other locations, we learned that the schools, churches and car washes all have the same problem. They cannot provide the volume of continuous hot water that is required to provide warm showers. To provide sufficient warm water would require an investment that is too big for a one-day event. With the best of intentions, most shower sites run out of hot water and have backed up drains and frustrated bicyclists in the first couple of hours. We made the investment and engineered a system capable of generating the volume of hot water required to provide a warm shower to all that used our showers. We provided the capability of 20 showers or approximately 500 riders in a day at our carwash. The smiles were endless. We had hundreds that asked us if we would go on the road or at least consult others on how to provide showers that are quick, convenient, and most importantly, WARM. We certainly enjoyed the friendly smiles and meeting so many people from so many locations. Therefore, we decided to offer our shower system to other towns as well. In 2003, my brother Marc joined our efforts as we continued to grow. Most towns called us the Shower Guys and in 2007 we eventually became the Shower Mobile LLC, based in North Liberty, Iowa. We now have three shower trailers and we go anywhere in the United States where showers are needed. We have provided showers for the following RAGBRAI overnight towns: 2003 Shenandoah and Bloomfield 2004 Iowa Falls, Hiawatha and Maquoketa. 2005 Sheldon, Estherville, Northwood, West Union and Guttenburg. 2006 Sergeant Bluff, Ida Grove, Audubon, Waukee, Marengo and Coralville 2007 Hampton, Cedar Falls, Independence and Dyersville 2008 Harlan, Jefferson, Ames, Tama-Toledo, North Liberty, Tipton, Le Claire (2x) 2009 Council Bluffs, Red Oak, Greenfield, Indianola, Chariton, Ottumwa, Mt. Pleasant, Burlington
We have also provided showers for other bicycling and non-bicycling events that include: AHCAST, Bike Ride Across Georgia, Bike Florida, Spring Tune Up, Midwest Scenic Tri State, RASH Ride and Oklahoma FreeWheel. After Hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast, we were ready to respond. We traveled to Hattiesburg, MS, Covington, LA, and New Orleans, LA. We provided hot showers to thousands of individuals each day for months in areas that had no electricity and no running water. We also custom built a new trailer that we sold to FEMA for New Orleans. |
